The Studio Theatre at the Garrick

As some members may be aware, over the past few months I have been looking into the possibility of the theatre having its own ‘Studio’ Theatre in the Lauriston Room. Well, the Executive Committee has decided to back this experimental venture and we are looking to have a season of plays in the Lauriston Room from September.
Here’s a brief outline:-

Proposal/Aim

• To integrate a Studio programme into the fabric of the theatre, without putting strain on over-committed, existing departments.
• To provide audiences with a rich stage experience, develop an alternative and intimate theatre space with new and challenging theatre
• To generate a creative ‘breeding ground’ for the main stage.

The Lauriston Studio Theatre Committee

This will be the management structure behind setting up the initial Studio Theatre proposal and the running of it throughout the season. The committee will consist of 5 people:

1. Chairman – Mark Butt
2. Stage Director – Barry Fletcher
3. Casting Committee representative – Terry Chandler
4. Front of House/Marketing representative – Summer Darcy
5. Treasurer – Brian Stoner

The Lauriston Room Committee will make decisions regarding the productions that will be staged in the Lauriston Room from suggestions made by Garrick members.

The Lauriston Studio Theatre 2006/07 Season

There will be five productions, two before Xmas and three after Xmas, one of which will be a production by the 15-18 year old section of the Academy (all dates to be confirmed). There is also the possibility of five non-Garrick productions being staged in there, i.e. “lets”.
