Return to Productions Archive Garrick Cinema An American in Paris Broadway’s breathtakingly beautiful new musical and winner of 4 Tony Awards Ran Sep 25, 2024 Age guidance PG Venue Main House Running time 155 minutes Tickets Price Range £16 - £12 Description WINNER of 4 TONY AWARDS This breathtakingly beautiful Tony Award-winning Broadway musical inspired by the Oscar winning MGM film, tells the impassioned story of discovering love in the ‘City of Light’. Jerry Mulligan is an American GI striving to make it as a painter in a city suddenly bursting with hope and possibility. Following a chance encounter with a beautiful young dancer named Lise, the streets of Paris become the backdrop to a sensuous, modern romance of art, friendship and love in the aftermath of war. Featuring the gorgeous music and lyrics of George and Ira Gershwin (including the classic hits, Wonderful and I Got Rhythm), stunning designs and show-stopping choreography, this incredible production received a record-setting 28 five-star reviews from the critics. The New York Times raves it’s “a triumph! Gorgeous, just plain gorgeous!” The Wall Street Journal calls it “a masterpiece! An old-fashioned, big-hearted spare-no-expense Broadway romance that instantly catapults Christopher Wheeldon into the ranks of top-tier director-choreographers, like Jerome Robbins and Bob Fosse. It’s been years—decades, really—since I last saw a production like this.” And Newsday cheers it’s “an extraordinary evening with exuberant, sweeping innovation, dark historical understanding and a big, smart heart.” Reviews Gallery Trailer Trigger Warning Documents related to this Production View the Programme View the Advertising Poster Return to Productions Archive

Throughout the year, the groups work towards the goal of putting a production onto the main stage. The year starts with stagecraft, skills and audition preparation, giving students the opportunity to enhance and develop their performance skills. Then it’s audition time and, once the play is cast, the rehearsals start and all the elements of the show are put together. Working through this process, the students learn the valuable skills required of rehearsing and putting on a production, whilst being surrounded by fun and laughter.
