Previous Next Anne Chandler Anne was part of a hugely talented family who contributed much to the Garrick, including husband, Terry, and daughter, Laura. She had a wonderful singing voice and, apart from appearing regularly in Garrick musicals, she was also a member of several local choirs and musical societies. Her credits included appearing in Mame , Cabaret , A Little Night Music , La Cage Aux Folles , and Acorn Antiques, the Musical . She also took a full part in the social life of the Garrick, performing in several fund-raising cabarets - and she became a regular behind the bar pulling pints along with Janet Slade and Elaine Saville - a formidable, yet fun, trio. Previous Next Pamela Knox Pam was a true Garrick stalwart, being a tireless supporter of the theatre, working primarily in the Props Department and also looking after the archives for many, many years. Her lasting legacy for the theatre was writing and producing in 1993 the published history of the theatre The Flame Still Burns, the story of Altrincham Garrick . Back to In Memoriam page

Previous Next Rita Howard Rita was a fine dramatic actress who joined the Garrick in the 1960's, but she also occasionally played comedy roles such as Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit . With her strong and powerful personality, she later became actively involved in the day-to-day running of the theatre, serving on the Executive Committee for many years. She was also a leading member of the Play Selection and Casting Committee. Rita's overall contribution to the continued success of the Garrick cannot be underestimated. Back to In Memoriam page

Previous Next Mike Stocks Mike was a talented set designer, with many of his sets gracing the stage between the 1980s and the early 2000s. Mike spent most of his working life in the profession, designing and working on sets for theatre and TV. He worked in the design department at Granada TV on such classics as Brideshead Revisited until his retirement. Happily for the Garrick, he spent his latter years volunteering. Mike had a great sense of humour and a very quick wit. Having run his own dance band after the war, he was no mean performer on the drums ... as Garrickers often witnessed at the Christmas Draw. Previous Next Nick Johnson Nick was one of the real characters at the Garrick, who joined in the early 1960's. His forte was comedy, and he was outstanding in numerous plays such as Hay Fever , How the Other Half Loves , Having a Ball , Hobson's Choice , Lettice and Lovage , and An Ideal Husband . He was also a talented writer, writing and performing in many shows and cabarets, some of which he produced in the Garrick bar to raise funds for the STAGE Appeal. These were often zany events, but always highly entertaining. Even after he had his leg amputated, he still performed and was able to access the stage via the lift from the dressing room installed after the 1999 renovation. Nick was a great patron of the bar, where his conversations were always highly amusing. He is fondly remembered for his sense of humour and his indomitable spirit despite his handicap.
